Jersey International Motoring Festival Gears Up for Its 25th Year and a Greener Future
The Jersey International Motoring Festival (JIMF), the largest annual motoring event in the Channel Islands, has announced plans for its 25th anniversary celebration, scheduled to take place from 5th to 8th June 2025. This milestone event will reflect on a quarter-century of motoring action in St. Helier, while also looking toward the future with a commitment to sustainability and innovation. A key feature of this commitment is the planned introduction of sustainable fuels for all competitive vehicles, marking a significant step in JIMF’s mission to support a greener future for motorsports and classic vehicles.
The Jersey International Motoring Festival is proudly organised and run by a dedicated team of volunteers, whose passion and commitment have ensured that the event remains a highlight of Jersey’s events calendar for 25 years. Despite the challenges of recent years, including the Covid-19 pandemic and pressures on sponsorships, the event has managed to remain financially sustainable while continuing to support the island's economy by bringing many visitors to Jersey for the four-day festival. For 2025, organisers are seeking financial aid from the Government to help elevate the event to the next level and sustain its future by supporting the cost of sustainable fuels.
“We are stepping into cutting-edge technology by introducing sustainable fuel to the event, and it will come at a cost that isn’t ordinarily obtainable for our competitors,” said Event Coordinator Steve Salmon. “Our aim is to subsidise the costs of what currently is a very low production volume fuel and bring it in line with standard petrol at the pump. Pushing the additional costs onto any of our stakeholders wouldn’t be viable this year, but we know it’s a step we need to take for the future of the event. By asking the Government for support now, we hope to open ourselves up to sponsorship opportunities that are currently unavailable while we primarily use fossil fuels.”
The sustainable fuel proposed is a synthetic fuel that has been in development for several years. It is produced in the UK using by-products of the agriculture industry, meaning it does not compete with food production (unlike the vast majority of ethanol-based fuels). Paired with the use of RD100 sustainable diesel that JIMF used in 2024 to power trade stalls in the parks, the event hopes to achieve a 65% reduction in carbon emissions.
Plans for the 25th-anniversary year of JIMF will include all the usual enjoyment for visitors, welcoming motoring enthusiasts from at home and overseas for four days of competitive racing, classic car displays, and family-friendly entertainment, including a live music stage and food village. More major highlights of the upcoming festival will be announced in the coming weeks.
Motoring enthusiasts, local residents, and visitors are invited to join the festivities from 5th to 8th June 2025.
